Encourage yourself to read more often and more thoroughly with book journal logs.
I chose to organize my log by parts. While reading, I write down important information, key turning points, ideas, etc to help myself summarize the information given. I can easily look back on this later (because let's face it, sometimes I get distracted and read a whole new book between chapters).
I like to include page numbers or chapter numbers for reference and use different color ink to distinguish my quotes from notes.
Bottom line is, do whatever feels right for the book you're reading! Have fun with it. Draw some doodles when you get a particularly clear image or copy diagrams. If you need more detailed notes, dedicate a page to each chapter and organize your thoughts with bullet points and subtitles.
This book comes highly recommended if you're also a fantasy fan! The Belvedor Saga was written by a close friend of mine who I highly respect for her adventurous and creative brain. She's the best. Find her here at AshleighBello.com
Happy Reading! Lisa
